Colombia’s unemployment rate climbed to 10.9% in January 2026, up from 8.0% in December, marking its highest level since January 2025. The increase was accompanied by a pronounced gender gap: unemployment stood at 8.7% for men and 13.8% for women, a difference of 5.2 percentage points. In the 13 main cities and metropolitan areas, the unemployment rate reached 10.6%. Employment growth was driven primarily by public administration, defense, education, and health services, which together added 172,000 jobs in January.
