Turkey’s Industrial Slump Eases Slightly in January, Still in Negative Territory

Turkey’s industrial production remained in contraction at the start of 2026, but the pace of decline moderated slightly compared to the previous month, according to the latest official data. Year-over-year output fell 1.8% in January 2026, following a 2.1% decline recorded in December 2025.

The figures, updated on 10 March 2026, show that while the industrial sector is still under pressure, the marginal improvement suggests a tentative stabilisation in production. Both indicators reflect year-over-year changes, comparing each month’s output to the same month a year earlier. December’s -2.1% reading measured output versus December a year before, while January’s -1.8% compares production with January of the previous year.

For investors and policymakers, the data point to a continued but slightly easing industrial downturn. The softer contraction may indicate that the sector is beginning to adjust after recent weakness, though sustained negative readings highlight ongoing challenges for Turkey’s manufacturing and broader industrial base.
