Angola Leaves Key Policy Rate at 17.5%

On March 12, 2026, the National Bank of Angola left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 17.5%, halting its easing cycle after three consecutive cuts. The pause reflects a backdrop of moderating inflation alongside a focus on supporting economic activity.

Annual inflation has been on a downward trend since peaking at 31.1% in July 2024. Headline inflation eased to 13.35% in February, its lowest level since July 2023, down from 14.56% in January, helped by a stable kwanza.

Economic growth has also strengthened. Angola’s GDP expanded by 5.7% in the fourth quarter of 2025, the fastest pace since the second quarter of 2023 and a sharp acceleration from the 2.6% growth recorded in the previous quarter.
