FX.co ★ Eurozone Construction Output Falls for 2nd Month

Eurozone construction output fell 1.9% year-on-year in February 2026, following an upwardly revised 4.1% decline in January and marking a second consecutive month of contraction for the sector. Building construction remained the main drag, shrinking 8.1%, though this represented a moderation from the 12.9% drop recorded in the previous month. Output also fell at a slower pace in civil engineering (-1.9% vs -3.8%) and in specialized construction activities (-0.1% vs -1.3%).

Among the major economies, construction output declined in Germany (-2.5% vs -6.8%), France (-3.5% vs -1.5%) and Spain (-10.2% vs +18.6%), while Italy posted an increase (1.4% vs -0.4%). On a monthly basis, eurozone construction output slipped 0.2% in February, after an upwardly revised 1.3% fall in January.
