French HICP Edges Up to 1.2% in April, Extending Modest Inflation Uptick

France’s Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) crept higher in April, with the indicator rising to 1.2% from 1.1% previously, according to data updated on 13 May 2026. The move signals a slight month‑over‑month acceleration in inflation pressures, as measured on a harmonised basis across the euro area.

Both the current and previous readings relate to April 2026, with the “actual” figure comparing price changes in April to the prior month, while the “previous” figure reflects how prices in the earlier comparison month evolved against its predecessor. The data show that, on this basis, price growth has firmed only marginally, suggesting inflation remains contained even as it trends a touch higher.
