Chile’s unemployment rate rose to 9.1% in the February–April 2026 quarter, 0.3 percentage points higher than a year earlier and above market expectations of 8.9%. This was the highest level since the quarter ending June 2021, as a 1.0% expansion in the labor force outpaced a 0.7% increase in employment. The number of unemployed people grew by 4.1%, driven by both a rise in those who had previously worked (+3.3%) and an even larger increase in first-time job seekers (+11.6%). Job growth was concentrated in health (5.9%), manufacturing (4.1%) and professional services (10.5%).
