The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, held steady at 2,729 points on Friday, its lowest level since May 1st, after ten consecutive sessions of declines. The capesize index, covering ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, fell 0.8% to 4,107 points. In contrast, the panamax index, which reflects rates for vessels hauling about 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose 1.4% to 2,283 points, while the supramax index added 0.6% to reach 1,642 points. Overall, the benchmark index was down roughly 8.5% for the week.
