Argentina Current Account Deficit Narrows

Argentina recorded a current account deficit of $1.651 billion in the first quarter of 2026, narrowing from a $5.158 billion shortfall in the same period a year earlier. The balance reflected deficits of $4.028 billion in the services account and $4.676 billion in primary income, partially offset by a $6.339 billion goods trade surplus and a $714 million surplus in secondary income.

The year-on-year improvement was driven primarily by a $3.214 billion increase in goods exports, a $532 million reduction in the services deficit, and a $1.066 billion decline in goods imports. The secondary income surplus also rose by $354 million. These gains were partly offset by a $1.658 billion widening of the primary income deficit compared with the first quarter of the previous year.
