Bosnia and Herzegovina GDP Growth Edges Up in Q1

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s economy grew by 2.2% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, edging up from 2.1% in the previous quarter. The expansion was underpinned by stronger activity in wholesale and retail trade, transportation, accommodation and food services (6.4% vs. 4.7% in Q4), construction (3.5% vs. 3.3%), and agriculture (0.4% vs. 0.3%). In contrast, output in mining and quarrying, manufacturing, and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply declined further (-4.4% vs. -4.2%).

On the expenditure side, final consumption expenditure rose at a faster pace (2.9% vs. 2.4%), supported by stable household spending (3.2% vs. 3.2%). However, growth in government consumption (1.8% vs. 2.7%) and gross capital formation (1.5% vs. 8.5%) weakened notably. On a seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP increased by 0.7%, slightly above the 0.6% growth recorded in the previous quarter.
