The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, ended a four-day winning streak on Wednesday, slipping about 1.7% to 2,929 points, pressured by weakness in the larger vessel segment. The capesize index, covering ships that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also broke a four-day rally, declining roughly 3.3% to 4,594 points. In contrast, the panamax index, which reflects rates for vessels hauling around 60,000–70,000 tons of coal or grain, inched up 0.3% to 2,258 points, while the supramax index added 0.6% to 1,720 points, its highest level since August 2022.
