Dutch Jobless Rate Falls to 11-Month Low

The Netherlands’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged down to 3.8% in June 2026 from 3.9% in May, reaching its lowest level since July 2025. The number of unemployed persons fell by 6,000 from the previous month to 393,000, while 3.2 million people remained outside the labor force, a group mainly comprising retirees and individuals unable to work due to illness or disability.

At the end of June, the number of unemployment benefit recipients stood at 196.9 thousand, a decrease of 1.2% from the previous month. Over the period, 20.6 thousand new claims were filed, while 23.1 thousand were terminated.

Meanwhile, employment rose by 2,000 to 9.831 million, and the labor force fell by 3,000 to 10.225 million, largely because more people exited the labor market and fewer non-participants moved into employment. The gross labor force participation rate slipped to 76.0% from 76.1%, while the net participation rate was unchanged at 73.1%. In June 2025, the unemployment rate was also 3.8%.
