Luxembourg Trade Deficit Narrows in May

Luxembourg’s trade deficit narrowed slightly to €0.66 billion in May 2026 from €0.67 billion a year earlier. Exports rose 6.4% year-on-year to €1.33 billion, supported by higher shipments of chemical and related products (27.9%), manufactured base metal goods (8.5%), and transport equipment (7.7%). The strongest export growth was recorded in sales to the United States (8.1%), Germany (5.9%), and Belgium (5.9%).

Imports increased at a more moderate pace of 3.8% to €1.99 billion, driven by higher purchases of mineral fuels and lubricants (52.1%), chemical and related products (22.3%), and machinery and equipment (7.4%). Purchases from the United States surged 153.0%, while those from Japan climbed 74.8%.
