Hong Kong Trade Deficit Narrows in June

Hong Kong’s trade deficit narrowed to $52.0 billion in June 2026, down from $58.9 billion in June 2025. Exports jumped 53.4% year-on-year to a four‑month high of $641.1 billion, driven largely by robust shipments of electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (up 57.2%), as well as office machines and automatic data processing machines (up 93.2%).

Exports to Asia increased by 54.4%, while sales to other major markets also surged, including the United States (up 114.3%) and Mexico (up 94.2%).

Imports rose 45.4% from a year earlier to a three‑month high of $693.0 billion, supported by stronger purchases of electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances, and electrical parts thereof (up 54.2%), along with telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment (up 67.3%). Import growth was particularly pronounced from Mainland China and Hong Kong (up 41.0%) and South Korea (up 176.7%).

For the January–June period, the cumulative trade deficit amounted to $294.6 billion.
