Japanese Shares Rebound on Bargain Hunting

The Nikkei 225 Index advanced 0.6% to move back above 62,700, while the broader Topix Index rose 0.3% to 3,975 on Wednesday, recovering part of the previous session’s losses as investors selectively bought oversold technology shares. Among major tech names, Kioxia Holdings jumped 7.3%, Advantest gained 6.4%, and Keyence surged 14.2%. Other notable gainers included Toyota Motor (up 1.9%), JX Advanced Metals (up 4.3%), and Capcom Co (up 11.9%).

Still, sentiment remained fragile, as another round of selling in US chipmakers overnight continued to pressure the market amid doubts about the sustainability of heavy investment in artificial intelligence. On the geopolitical front, the US military reported that it had successfully intercepted what it described as a surprise Iranian attack targeting US troops stationed across the Middle East, reigniting regional tensions and driving oil prices higher.
