Indonesia Trade Deficit Below Estimates

Indonesia recorded a trade deficit of USD 0.45 billion in June 2026, reversing from a USD 4.11 billion surplus in the same month a year earlier and coming in wider than market expectations for a USD 0.79 billion deficit. This marked the second consecutive month of trade shortfall, as import growth continued to outpace exports. Imports jumped 34.27% year-on-year, sharply above the consensus forecast of 25.3% and accelerating from a 22.16% rise in May. By contrast, exports increased 8.84% year-on-year, rebounding from a 5.73% contraction in May—the steepest decline in six months—and beating projections for a modest 0.25% gain.
