US energy companies injected 33 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas into storage in the week ending July 31, exceeding market expectations of a 31 bcf build. This compares with an injection of 13 bcf in the same week a year earlier and a five-year (2021–2025) average increase of 23 bcf for that period. Total inventories rose to 3.117 trillion cubic feet, standing 0.4% below the level recorded a year ago but about 6.7% above the five-year average for the week. In the previous week, which ended July 24, storage levels had increased by 28 bcf.
