Finland Trade Surplus Hits Record High

Finland’s trade surplus widened to EUR 1.89 billion in June 2026 from EUR 0.88 billion in June 2025, according to preliminary estimates. This was the largest trade surplus on record, driven by export growth outpacing imports. Exports expanded by 39.6% year-on-year to EUR 9.0 billion, supported by stronger shipments to both EU countries (up 12.8%) and non-EU countries (up 10.5%).

Among Finland’s key trading partners, exports to the United States surged by 338.2%, while exports to China grew by 54.1%, to Sweden by 20.7%, and to Germany by 12.0%. Imports also increased, rising 17.6% to EUR 7.15 billion.

It should be noted that, as of January 2026, imports from EU countries are compiled under a new methodology, meaning that only total import values are directly comparable with those for 2025. Over the January–June period, Finland recorded a trade deficit of EUR 1.10 billion, compared with a deficit of EUR 0.65 billion in the same period of 2025.
