Romania Trade Gap Widens in June

Romania’s trade deficit widened to EUR 2.961 billion in June 2026, up from EUR 2.397 billion in the same month a year earlier. Exports rose by 5.9% year-on-year to EUR 8.702 billion, supported by higher shipments to both EU countries (+4.8%) and non-EU markets (+8.8%). Imports increased at a faster pace, by 9.9% to EUR 11.663 billion, driven by higher purchases from EU partners (+10.9%) as well as from non-EU countries (+7.2%).

Over the January–June period, exports grew by 3.0% to EUR 49.038 billion, mainly reflecting higher sales of food and live animals (+7.8%), manufactured goods classified by raw materials (+7.0%), and machinery and transport equipment (+1.7%). Imports rose by 1.7% to EUR 65.498 billion, with gains recorded in machinery and transport equipment (+2.0%), manufactured goods classified by raw materials (+0.4%), and chemical and related products (+2.9%).

As a result, the trade deficit for the first half of the year stood at EUR 16.460 billion, down by EUR 0.3 billion, or 2.0%, compared with the same period a year earlier.
