Kazakhstan’s current account posted a surplus of USD 3.0 billion in the second quarter of 2026, compared with a deficit of USD 2.5 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to preliminary estimates. The trade surplus widened sharply to USD 11.0 billion in Q2 2026 from USD 2.9 billion in Q2 2025, as exports surged by 38.8% while imports rose by a more modest 2.4%. The services account deficit narrowed to USD 0.2 billion from USD 0.3 billion, and the secondary income account deficit decreased to USD 21.6 million from USD 106.1 million. Offsetting these improvements to some extent, the primary income account deficit widened to USD 7.7 billion from USD 5.0 billion.
