Bulgaria Industrial Output Falls at Softer Pace

Bulgaria's industrial production fell by 2.5% year-on-year in June 2026, easing from a 4.8% decline in May. The slower contraction was mainly driven by a rebound in manufacturing output, which grew 1.3% after a 3.9% drop in the previous month. This improvement was supported by solid gains in the manufacture of food products (4.6%), beverages (2.2%), and tobacco products (17.8%).

Production in the electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply sector also strengthened, with growth accelerating to 10% from 8.8% in May. In contrast, the downturn in mining and quarrying deepened significantly, with output plunging 49.1% compared with a 33% decline a month earlier.

By main industrial grouping, output of investment goods posted a strong rebound, rising 7.7% after an 18.2% contraction in May. The decline in consumer durables also moderated markedly, narrowing to 0.2% from 12.5%. Meanwhile, growth in energy goods slowed to 6.5% from 9.1%, and consumer non-durables shifted into contraction, dropping 5.9% after a 0.4% increase in the previous month.

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production increased by 0.4% in June, recovering from a 0.2% decline in May.
