South Korea’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate edged up to 2.8% in July 2026 from 2.7% in June. The economy added 108,000 jobs during the month, marking a second consecutive monthly increase and lifting total employment to 29.14 million, up from 29.03 million a year earlier. Job creation had remained in the 200,000 range in February and March, before slowing to 74,000 in April and then contracting by 40,000 in May, the first decline in 17 months. July’s employment gains were led by business, personal, and public services and other sectors (+247,000), as well as electricity, transport, communication, and finance (+66,000).
