TSX Futures Edge Higher on Earnings and Lower Oil

Futures tracking Canadian equities inched higher, supported by a new round of corporate earnings and softer oil prices.

Brookfield reported an increase in second-quarter distributable earnings per share. CCL Industries delivered 9.1% sales growth and a 10.7% rise in adjusted EPS. Pan American Silver posted 38% revenue growth and strong free cash flow, though its EPS of $0.73 fell short of expectations. Hydro One reported stronger profit, with EPS of C$0.62 topping forecasts. Metro recorded 4.1% sales growth and an 8.8% increase in adjusted EPS; however, same-store food sales saw only modest gains and fiscal third-quarter adjusted earnings were softer.

At the same time, oil prices declined amid concerns over weakening demand. Easing inflation pressures—reinforced by subdued US PPI data—provided support for financials and other interest- and credit-sensitive stocks, while lower oil and gold prices weighed on commodity-linked names.
