German Producer Prices Rebound in July, Turning Positive After Months of Declines

Germany’s Producer Price Index (PPI) moved back into positive territory in July 2026, signaling a notable shift in upstream price dynamics after recent declines. Month-over-month, producer prices rose by 1.1% in July, compared with a 0.3% decrease in June, according to data updated on 20 August 2026.

The turnaround from June’s -0.3% to July’s 1.1% on a month-over-month basis suggests a firming in cost pressures at the producer level. As the PPI measures price changes for goods at the factory gate, the July uptick may foreshadow rising input costs for downstream industries and could eventually filter through to consumer prices if sustained.

With the comparison based on month-over-month changes, July’s reading marks a break from the previous negative momentum. Market participants and policymakers will be watching subsequent data closely to determine whether this is a one-off correction or the start of a broader upward trend in producer prices across Germany’s industrial sector.
