FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index Hits Near 3-Month Peak

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk sea freight index climbed 2.1% to 3,107 on Thursday, extending its winning streak to six sessions and reaching its highest level since June 3. The benchmark tracks charter rates for capesize, panamax, and supramax vessels.

The capesize index, which reflects rates for vessels typically carrying 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also rose for a sixth straight session, gaining 2.1% to 5,138 points, its highest reading since June 3. The panamax index, which covers ships hauling about 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, advanced for a fifth consecutive session, adding 2.1% to reach 2,292 points, the strongest level since August 12.

Among the smaller segments, the supramax index inched up 0.1% to 1,645 points.
