Finnish Q2 GDP Revised Lower

Finland’s gross domestic product grew by 0.4% quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2026, significantly below the preliminary estimate of 0.9% and easing from a downwardly revised 0.8% increase in the previous quarter. The slowdown was mainly attributable to weaker domestic demand, with household consumption contracting by 0.5% after a 0.6% rise in Q1, government spending declining by 0.3% after remaining flat, and gross fixed capital formation plunging 8.5% following a 6.8% increase.

By contrast, the external sector underpinned growth: exports of goods and services surged 5.7%, up from 2.3% in Q1, while imports rose 2.2% compared with 2.0% previously. On an annual basis, GDP growth quickened to 1.6% in Q2 from an upwardly revised 1.2% in the first quarter, marking the fastest expansion since the fourth quarter of 2024.
