Uruguay Trade Deficit Widens in July

Uruguay’s trade deficit widened sharply to $182.84 million in July 2026, from $54.12 million in the same month a year earlier. Imports rose 15.1% year-on-year to $1.19 billion. Intermediate goods purchases increased 26.9%, driven by a 139.1% surge in oil and distillate imports, a 62.5% rise in electricity imports, and a 36.3% increase in food and beverage imports. Consumer goods imports grew 5.5%, supported by a 21.7% rise in autos and other transport equipment and a 20.2% increase in durable goods. In contrast, capital goods imports fell 1.9%. On the export side, total shipments increased 2.8% to $1.01 billion, as exports of manufactured goods rose 10.9%, while exports of primary products dropped 9.6% and utilities exports declined 31.5%.
