FX.co ★ Italy Jobless Rate Unchanged in July

Italy’s unemployment rate held at 5.8% in July 2026, the highest level since October 2025. The figure was unchanged from June’s upwardly revised 5.8% and was in line with market expectations.

The number of jobseekers fell by 1.1% (17,000 people), to 1.49 million. This decline was driven by men and most age groups, with the exception of those aged 35–49.

The employment rate was stable at 63.2%, with the total number of employed people essentially unchanged at 24.37 million. Employment rose among men, permanent employees, the self-employed, and workers aged 35–49, but declined among women, temporary employees, and the remaining age groups.

The youth unemployment rate, covering jobseekers aged 15 to 24, inched up to 18.9% from 18.7%. The inactivity rate was unchanged at 32.8%.
