Euro Zone Core HICP Ticks Up 0.2% in August, Ending Flat Streak

Euro Zone inflation excluding energy and food edged higher in August 2026, with the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP ex Energy and Food) rising 0.2% month-on-month. The data, updated on 1 September 2026, mark a pickup from July 2026, when the core measure was flat at 0.0% compared with the previous month.

The move indicates a modest reacceleration in underlying price pressures after a pause in July. On a month-over-month basis, August’s “actual” figure compares the change in prices to July, while the “previous” figure reflected July’s change relative to June. The shift from zero to 0.2% suggests that, while headline volatility from energy and food is stripped out, core components are again contributing to incremental inflation in the currency bloc.
