Cyprus Retail Trade Growth at 6-Month High

Retail sales in Cyprus rose 8.9% year-on-year in July 2026, up from 5.5% in June, marking the strongest expansion since January. Growth accelerated across several key categories, including food, beverages, and tobacco in non-specialized stores (6.0% vs 2.1% in June), information and communication equipment (25.6% vs 20.1%), other household equipment (16.9% vs 14.1%), cultural and recreation goods (13.2% vs 10.1%), and pharmaceuticals, orthopedic goods, and cosmetics (6.5% vs 5.6%).

In addition, sales rebounded for automotive fuels (3.4% vs -3.5%) and for flowers, plants, watches, jewellery, optical goods, and second-hand goods (3.7% vs -1.4%). By contrast, growth moderated slightly for clothing and footwear (16.4% vs 17.1%) and for goods sold outside of stores (17.0% vs 20.5%). Over the period from January to July, retail sales were up 6.3% compared with the same period a year earlier.
