FX.co ★ Eurozone Jobless Rate Above Forecasts at 6.4%

The Eurozone’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held steady at 6.4% in July, unchanged from June’s revised figure and slightly above the 6.3% consensus forecast. The total number of unemployed remained at 11.264 million.

Youth unemployment edged down to a near one-year low of 14.9% from 15.0% in the previous month, with 2.371 million people under the age of 25 out of work.

Among the major economies in the currency bloc, Spain (10.0%), France (8.3%), and Italy (7.8%) registered the highest unemployment rates, while Germany (4.0%) and the Netherlands (4.0%) posted the lowest. A year earlier, the Eurozone jobless rate had been slightly lower, at 6.3%.

Across the broader European Union, the unemployment rate was unchanged for the sixth consecutive month, at 6.1%.
