Vietnam’s Trade Deficit Narrows Sharply in August 2026

Vietnam’s trade deficit narrowed significantly in August 2026, pointing to an improvement in the country’s external balance. The trade gap decreased to -1,130 million USD, compared with a much wider deficit of -3,590 million USD recorded in July 2026.

The latest figures, updated on 3 September 2026, indicate that Vietnam reduced its monthly trade shortfall by 2,460 million USD within a single month. While the country remains in deficit, the marked month-on-month improvement suggests a notable shift in the dynamics of imports and exports over the period.

Investors and analysts will be watching subsequent releases to determine whether August’s data reflects the beginning of a sustained trend toward stabilizing Vietnam’s trade position or a temporary correction following July’s pronounced imbalance.
