Mauritius’s annual inflation rate accelerated for the second consecutive month, rising to 4.9% in August 2026 from 4.4% in July, and reaching its highest level since July 2025. The main upward contributions came from housing and utilities (8.9%, unchanged from July), restaurants and hotels (8.6% vs. 9.9% in July), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (6% vs. 5.7%), transportation (6% vs. 4.6%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.9% vs. 2.7%). In contrast, prices in information and communication continued to decline (-1.5%, unchanged from July). On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.4% in August, following a 0.2% rise in the previous month.
