Greece Annual Inflation Accelerates in August

Greece’s annual inflation rate increased to 3.8% in August 2026, up from 3.4% in July. The acceleration was driven primarily by higher price growth in housing and utilities, where inflation rose to 9.7% from 8.8%, and in transport, which climbed to 7.7% from 7.4%.

Additional upward pressure came from faster inflation in several categories: food (0.9% vs 0.4%), restaurants and hotels (6.0% vs 5.8%), health (1.3% vs 1.1%), and clothing and footwear (5.3% vs 3.3%). Inflation remained at 2.8% for educational services and 3.4% for insurance and financial services. Deflation in information and communication eased slightly, with prices falling 2.6% compared to 2.7% previously.

By contrast, price growth slowed for furnishings (0.3% vs 0.4%) and for recreation, sports and culture (1.2% vs 1.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4% in August, rebounding after a 1.4% decline in July.
