German HICP Holds Steady at 2.9% in August, Signaling Stable Inflation Trend

Germany’s Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) remained unchanged in August, registering a year-over-year increase of 2.9%, according to the latest data updated on 10 September 2026. The rate matches the previous annual reading of 2.9% recorded in August 2026, indicating a period of steady inflation on a harmonised basis.

The HICP, which allows for cross-country comparison within the euro area, shows that German consumer price growth has neither accelerated nor eased compared with the same month a year earlier. With both the current and previous year-over-year readings at the same level, the figures suggest a stable inflation backdrop for Europe’s largest economy during August.
