UK Consumer Sentiment Edges Higher in September, Thomson Reuters IPSOS PCSI Shows

Consumer confidence in the United Kingdom improved in September 2026, according to the latest Thomson Reuters IPSOS Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI). The index rose to 48.3 in September from 47.1 in August 2026.

The uptick suggests a modest strengthening in UK households’ outlook for the economy and their personal finances as the PCSI moves closer to the neutral 50-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism. While still below that mark, the gain points to a gradual recovery in sentiment rather than a sharp shift in confidence.

The September reading, published with data updated as of 10 September 2026, will be closely watched by markets and policymakers as an early signal of how consumers may approach spending and saving decisions heading into the final quarter of the year.
