Rwanda Inflation Rate Continues to Soar

Rwanda’s annual inflation rate rose to 15.9% in August 2026, up from 13.8% in July, marking the highest level since September 2023 and the fifth consecutive monthly acceleration. Price pressures remained particularly strong in several categories, including transportation (27.5%, unchanged from July), communications (27.6%), housing and utilities (19.9% vs. 20.5% in July), food and non-alcoholic beverages (16.7% vs. 12.6%), and restaurants and hotels (13.7% vs. 12.8%). On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) jumped by 2.6%—the sharpest increase in four months—following a 0.3% rise in the previous month.
