China’s Housing Slump Eases Slightly as August Prices Fall 3.0% Year-on-Year

China’s housing market remained under pressure in August 2026, but the pace of decline showed a marginal improvement. According to data updated on 15 September 2026, residential property prices fell 3.0% year-on-year in August, compared with a 3.2% drop in July.

Both figures are based on year-over-year comparisons, measuring how prices in each month changed relative to the same month a year earlier. The slight moderation from July’s -3.2% to August’s -3.0% suggests the downturn in China’s housing sector is still ongoing, but the rate of decline has narrowed somewhat as the summer progressed. Investors and policymakers will be watching coming months closely for signs of whether this tentative stabilization can be sustained.
