French Inflation Inches Higher as August CPI Rises to 0.7% MoM

France’s consumer price inflation edged up in August, with the month-over-month Consumer Price Index (CPI) reading climbing to 0.7%, compared with 0.6% in the previous month. Both the current and previous readings relate to August 2026 data, with the latest figures updated on 15 September 2026.

On a month-over-month basis, the “actual” 0.7% reflects the change in prices in August compared with July, while the “previous” 0.6% shows how prices moved in July relative to June. The slight acceleration suggests a modest pickup in short-term price pressures within the French economy.

For markets and policymakers, the data will be watched for signs of whether this upward move is temporary or part of a more sustained trend in rising consumer prices, given that even small shifts in monthly inflation can influence expectations for interest rates and economic growth.
