Zambia’s annual inflation rate eased to 6.1% in September 2026, its lowest level since February 2018, down slightly from 6.2% in August. Food inflation slowed to 5.8% in September from 6.0% a month earlier, while non-food inflation held steady at 6.6%. A resilient currency and temporary tax relief measures have helped keep price pressures in check, including a suspension of fuel taxes and the application of a zero-rated VAT, both scheduled to expire on September 30. On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.4%—the largest increase in five months—following a 0.2% gain in the previous month.
