FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index Rises to Near 2-Week High

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which measures shipping rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, climbed 1.2% on Thursday to 3,473 points, its highest level since September 11. The capesize index, reflecting rates for vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, rose 1.3% to 5,939 points. The panamax index, tracking ships that usually transport 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, gained 2.1% to reach 2,382 points. Among the smaller vessel segments, the supramax index edged up 0.2% to 1,782 points.
