Italy’s Producer Price Inflation Surges to 10.9% in August, Up Sharply from 7.7%

Italy’s producer price index (PPI) accelerated markedly in August 2026, with annual inflation in factory-gate prices rising to 10.9% year-over-year, up from 7.7% in July 2026. The latest reading, released on 29 September 2026, signals a renewed build-up of cost pressures at the producer level.

On a year-over-year basis, the August figure means Italian producers faced significantly higher input and output prices compared with August a year earlier, and at a faster pace than in the previous month. The July reading of 7.7% was already elevated, but the jump to 10.9% in August underlines a strengthening inflation impulse coming from the production side of the economy.

The comparison is based on changes in prices for each month versus the same month a year earlier, with July’s 7.7% and August’s 10.9% both reflecting year-over-year movements. The latest data will be closely watched by markets and policymakers, as sustained PPI increases can later filter through to consumer prices and corporate margins.
