Producer prices in the Euro Area increased by 1.9% month-on-month in August 2026, the largest rise since March, following a 1.6% gain in July and in line with expectations. The increase was driven primarily by a 5.6% jump in energy prices, reflecting an almost 70% surge in European benchmark natural gas costs, which pushed up electricity bills and raised production costs across a wide range of manufactured goods. Prices also rose for intermediate goods (0.4%), capital goods (0.2%), durable consumer goods (0.4%), and non-durable consumer goods (0.1%). On an annual basis, producer price inflation accelerated to 8.2% from 5.8% in the previous month, marking the highest rate since February 2023.
