FX.co ★ Slovakia Retail Sales Rebound in August

Retail sales in Slovakia increased by 1.6% year-on-year in August 2026, rebounding from a 0.1% decline in July. Turnover recovered in specialized stores selling food, beverages, and tobacco (0.4% vs -1.6% in July). Activity also strengthened in information and communication equipment (8.5% vs 8.1%), other household goods in specialized stores (8.6% vs 3.3%), and other goods in specialized stores (1.8% vs 0.3%).

Meanwhile, the pace of decline eased in sales via stalls and markets (-10.2% vs -16.9%), as well as in sales conducted outside stores, stalls, or markets (-4.6% vs -11.8%). By contrast, sales growth slowed for automotive fuels in specialized stores (0.4% vs 1.6%), and activity turned negative for cultural and recreational goods in specialized stores (-4.3% vs 0.3%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade was up 0.9%, after a 0.2% increase in the previous month.
