Austria Wholesale Inflation Highest Since 2023

Wholesale prices in Austria rose by 10.2% year-on-year in September 2026, the sharpest increase since February 2023 and up from an 8.2% gain in August. The acceleration was largely driven by steep price rises in other liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (68.8%), motor spirit (45.1%), plastics and rubber in primary forms (26.6%), waste and scrap (25.6%), and non‑ferrous metals (21.2%).

Additional notable increases were recorded for information and communication equipment (18.8%), other machinery and equipment (18.1%), solid fuels (16.2%), grain, seeds and animal feeds (11.8%), and iron and steel (11.8%). By contrast, prices declined for live animals (-10.9%) and for dairy products, eggs, and edible oils and fats (-1.3%).

On a monthly basis, wholesale prices advanced 1.9% in September, the strongest rise in six months and up from 0.9% in August. This was mainly attributable to higher prices for other liquid and gaseous fuels and related products (12.6%), motor spirit (10.4%), and grain, seeds and animal feeds (7.0%).
