FTSE 100 Rises for Third Session

The FTSE 100 climbed to around 10,500 on Tuesday, extending its gains for a third straight session and mirroring a broader global equity rally, as easing oil prices improved overall market sentiment. Healthcare stocks led the advance: AstraZeneca gained 2.9% after unveiling more than $1 billion in planned investment in Massachusetts, while sector peer GSK added 1.5%. Financials and miners also traded higher, with Standard Chartered up 1.1%, Glencore advancing 1.3% and Barclays rising 0.7%. Informa gained 0.6% after agreeing to acquire Clarion for £2.24 billion and announcing a strategic review of options for its Taylor & Francis publishing division. By contrast, energy stocks were mixed, with Shell little changed and BP down 1.0%. Defence contractor BAE Systems also slipped about 1%.
