U.S. exports rose by $4.5 billion to $315.2 billion in August 2026, largely reflecting a $6.3 billion increase in industrial supplies and materials, driven primarily by higher exports of nonmonetary gold and crude oil. Exports of capital goods also grew by $1.3 billion, led by semiconductors and computers. These gains were partially offset by a $2.4 billion drop in pharmaceutical exports. Exports of services were little changed overall, as increased receipts from charges for the use of intellectual property and from other business services were offset by declines in travel and financial services.
