The Global Supply Chain Pressure Index rose to 1.28 in September 2026 from an upwardly revised 1.20 in August, signaling a modest increase in supply chain strains over the month. Even with this uptick, pressures remain comfortably below the recent high of 1.81 reached in May and are far from the 4.43 reading recorded in December 2021, when extensive COVID-19–related disruptions severely stressed global supply networks. Elevated supply chain pressures can fuel inflation by driving up production and distribution costs and constraining the supply of goods. The latest increase coincides with the Federal Reserve’s decision last month to raise its policy rate and its guidance that another rate hike is likely by year-end, as policymakers work to return inflation closer to the Fed’s target.
