China Stocks Gain on Return From Golden Week

The Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.2% to 3,848, while the Shenzhen Component Index climbed 0.6% to 12,960 on Thursday as investors returned from the week-long Golden Week holiday. Market participants largely brushed aside broader uncertainty across Asian equities after an overnight selloff on Wall Street, triggered by a sharp rise in US Treasury yields.

Focus is now shifting to a series of key Chinese economic data releases due next week, including inflation and trade figures, which investors will scrutinize for signs that Beijing’s latest stimulus measures are taking hold. The recently unveiled support package — featuring mortgage subsidies, expanded central bank funding facilities, and a State Council commitment to roll out “a package of practical and effective additional policies” — has so far done little to reassure markets that it will be sufficient to reinvigorate domestic demand.

Among notable gainers were Sinopec, up 1.3%, China CSSC Holdings, up 2.7%, CATL, up 1.5%, and BYD, up 1.6%.
