Taiwan Posts Largest Trade Surplus on Record

Taiwan’s trade surplus widened sharply to a record USD 23.63 billion in September 2026, up from USD 12.30 billion a year earlier. Exports surged 60.9% year-on-year to an all-time high of USD 87.22 billion, driven by robust shipments of information, communication and audio-video products (up 103.0%), electronic parts (up 45.3%), and mineral products (up 86.4%).

The United States remained Taiwan’s largest export market, accounting for 31.5% of total shipments, with exports to the US soaring 106.2%.

On the import side, purchases rose 51.7% to a record USD 63.59 billion, supported by strong demand for electronic parts (up 82.5%), information, communication and audio-video products (up 106.5%), and mineral products (up 38.9%). Mainland China and Hong Kong remained the leading sources of imports, together representing 21.2% of the total, with imports from the two markets jumping 59.1%.

Over the first nine months of the year, Taiwan’s trade surplus reached USD 160.55 billion, as exports climbed 46.2% and imports increased 41.3%.
