Japan 10-Year Yield Rises as BOJ Outlook Mulled

Japan’s 10-year government bond yield rose toward 2.95% on Friday, partially rebounding from the previous session’s decline as investors weighed hawkish signals from a Bank of Japan official. BOJ board member Junko Koeda warned this week against being excessively cautious about raising interest rates, reinforcing expectations that the central bank could continue tightening monetary policy in the coming months after stepping up its normalization efforts.

Earlier reports indicated that the BOJ was hesitant to implement an unusual back-to-back rate hike this month, though a possible increase in December remained on the table. Meanwhile, BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda said policymakers would keep a close watch on bond yields and reiterated that long-term interest rates should be set by market forces. His remarks highlighted the central bank’s measured approach as it continues to move away from its previous yield curve control framework.
